Common questions

Which languages does the app support?
The interface and all 106 stories are available in English, 正體中文 (Traditional Chinese), and Eesti (Estonian). Narration is recorded in English, 國語 Mandarin, 粵語 Cantonese, and Estonian. Cantonese can be heard either as the written text is printed or in natural spoken form.
Can my child read in one language and listen in another?
Yes, and that is the point. Reading language, listening language, and the language word meanings appear in are three separate settings. A child can read English, hear Cantonese, and get meanings in Traditional Chinese if that suits your family.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Everything is included in the download, so the app works fully offline. Because all the artwork and narration ship inside the app, the initial download is large. We suggest installing over Wi-Fi.
What happens when my child taps a word?
Every word in every title and caption can be tapped. A small card shows what the word means, written for a child, plus a button to hear it said aloud. Estonian has no word-level voice on iOS, so the speaker button is hidden there rather than reading it in the wrong accent. Estonian page narration is unaffected.
How does the bedtime shelf work?
Add any story to the bedtime shelf using the moon button on its cover, then drag to reorder. "Read them all to me" plays the whole shelf in the calm voice, moving story to story on its own and gently fading the screen to black. A tap brings it back.
Can I stop my child changing the settings?
Switch to kid mode using the person button at the top of the home screen. Kid mode hides every setting except the picture style.
Why are there two picture styles?
Every story is illustrated twice: an Eastern black-and-white manga style and a Western colour comic style. Choose whichever your child prefers in Settings, and change it any time.
Do the fairy tales have frightening endings?
No. The retellings are deliberately gentle. Nobody is eaten in Little Red Riding Hood, Icarus is caught before he falls, and Snow White simply wakes up. There is mild folktale mischief and the odd wolf at the door, but no violence and no grisly detail.
Is it free? Are there ads?
The app is free, all 106 stories are included, and there are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no advertising. There are also no accounts and no data collection of any kind. See the privacy policy.

Ask for a new language

The app interface and stories are currently in English, Traditional Chinese, and Estonian. If you would like to read these stories with your child in another language, tell us which one. We prioritise the languages families actually ask for, and we would rather hear from you than guess.

Email [email protected] with the language and, if you like, the country you are in.

Something not working?

Send us the device you are using, the iOS version, and what happened. Screenshots help. We reply to every message.
